Current Projects

The Old South School

The Old South School on Johnson Road is being renovated and restored to its former self. We hope that the project will be completed this year (2007). Many volunteers and donations have helped us get to the point seen in the picture.

• June 2002 - school gets a new wood shingle roof!
• Early 2003 - interior work commences
• July/August 2003 - The original front porch which was removed in 1928 is rebuilt.
  The reconstruction is based on early photographs and the "shadowline" of the porch roof, still visible on the main block.
• We have been acquiring some early desks, but still need many more!

The Cement Kiln on Litchfield Turnpike

This picture is a scan from a postcard circa 1910. The kiln is not in nearly as good condition now. The right side is mostly destroyed, and trees have grown all around and on what remains. Pictures are posted that shows the kiln's current condition. The kiln was officially placed on the National Register in October 2000. We aren't quite sure what to do next!
