Strongs Match Factory/Cider Mill

QR Strong Mill, located at 175 Seymour Rd. in Woodbridge, Connecticut, has undergone several transformations since its construction in 1840. Originally built as a match factory by William Clark, who secured water privileges from Timothy Alling, the mill became part of Clark Match, a joint-stock company later acquired by Diamond Match of Chicago. In the early 1900s, the mill shifted from match production to a sawmill and later a cider mill, adapting to the changing industrial landscape. By the 1960s, it was converted into a private residence, reflecting the broader trend of repurposing industrial buildings. Today, Strong Mill stands as a reminder of Woodbridge’s industrial past, highlighting the resilience and adaptability of both the building and the community as it has evolved over the years.
